Why Walk Or Stand, When You Can Ride?

riderA new generation of cleaning equipment is growing in popularity by delivering increased productivity, reduced operator fatigue, lowered maintenance expenses and improved safety. The latest innovation of compact riding scrubbers can reduce cleaning costs by 36% compared to their walk-behind or stand-up counterparts!

Built in the same footprint as a 20” walk-behind scrubber, the newest compact riding scrubber has two primary features to increase productivity. The first is 70% larger tank volumes which reduce downtime from emptying and refilling the machine with fresh solution. More importantly, the riding scrubber cleans at just less than four miles per hour, allowing it to clean up to 30,000 square feet per hour.  This is 44% more productive than comparable sized stand-up scrubbers.

Another impressive feature of the new riding scrubber is reduced operator fatigue. One of the most frequent complaints by users of stand-up scrubbing equipment is fatigue in the lower leg of the operator. This is caused by the constant need to activate a foot pedal for speed control. The combination of frequent lifting and lowering of the operator’s foot causes unnecessary stress on the shin and calf.

Users of automatic cleaning equipment often overlook maintenance expenses when considering the total cost of ownership for their machine. By cleaning faster, the new riding machines actually reduce maintenance expenses. Consider a 30,000 square foot area that is cleaned 5 days per week. A traditional 20” stand-up scrubber will spend 1.6 hours per day cleaning, or 8.3 hours per week. This means all of the motors and critical components on the machine will also work for 8.3 hours per week. A compact riding scrubber will clean this same area in just one hour per day, or five hours per week. During the course of a calendar year, the stand-on scrubber will operate 431 hours and the riding scrubber will operate only 260 hours. The riding scrubber will incur 171 fewer hours, or 40% less use of the critical components every calendar year, thereby extending the period of time between maintenance cycles on the most expensive components.

Compact riding scrubbers also improve safety with their cab-forward design. In this configuration, the operator is positioned at the very front of the machine. This means that anytime the scrubber is turning a blind corner or passing across a doorway, the operator is the first thing that approaches the corner or doorway. This gives the user a superior line of sight when approaching potential hazards. When using a walk-behind scrubber, the operator is positioned at the rear of the machine. So anytime the unit turns a corner or passes a doorway, the machine makes the transition first and then the operator. This can be dangerous if there is a pedestrian existing a doorway or an obstacle is positioned right around a corner.
